Privacy Policy

Who we are

Guitar Events (guitar-events.com) is operated by a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce and established in Groningen, the Netherlands, which is the data controller for the processing described in this policy. What we collect, and why

• Usage data (first-party analytics): pages visited and features used (for example running a repertoire match or clicking through to a competition's website). Our analytics is cookieless: it uses an anonymous identifier derived from general browser characteristics, sets no analytics cookies, and offers an opt-out. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in understanding whether the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
• Your repertoire and favorites: stored in your own browser (local storage) and never sent to us unless you create an account (account features are currently disabled). You can clear them at any time via your browser settings.
• Email digest signup: if you sign up for our monthly digest we collect your email address, the page you signed up on, and the time of signup and confirmation. It is stored in our database and passed to our email provider, Kit, which sends you a confirmation email; you only receive the digest after you confirm. Every email has an unsubscribe link. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing or emailing us.
• Error / correction reports: if you report a data error we collect your email address (required), your name (optional), and your message, so we can follow up. Stored in our database. Legal basis: taking steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in accurate listings.
• Competition suggestions: if you suggest a competition we collect the event details plus your name, email address, and role, so we can verify the listing. Stored in our database. Legal basis: taking steps at your request (Art. 6(1)(b)).
• Server logs: our hosting provider processes technical data such as IP addresses to deliver the site and defend it against abuse. Legal basis: legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).

How long we keep it

Error reports and competition suggestions are kept for as long as they are needed to verify and maintain the listing they relate to, then deleted or anonymised. Your email address for the digest is kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Analytics data is kept in aggregate form. You can ask us to delete anything you have submitted at any time.

Cookies and consent

• Essential storage: local storage for your preferences and repertoire. No consent required.
• First-party analytics: cookieless, with an opt-out.
• Google Analytics: measures visits and page views. If you visit from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, Google Analytics sets no cookies unless you consent through our consent message; without consent it sends only cookieless measurements and stores nothing on your device. Elsewhere it uses cookies (named _ga) to recognise repeat visits. Legal basis: your consent (EEA/UK/Switzerland), otherwise our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.
• Advertising (Google AdSense): if you visit from the EEA or UK, a Google-certified consent message asks for your choice before personalised advertising cookies are used. You can decline, and you can change your choice later. See how Google uses data from partner sites.
• Embedded booking maps (Stay22): on competition pages the third-party hotel map loads only after you choose to load it; until then no Stay22 cookies are set.

Third parties we work with

• Netlify: website hosting (server logs). Privacy policy

• Supabase: our database (EU region, Frankfurt), where form submissions and analytics events are stored. Privacy policy
• Kit: sends the monthly digest and its confirmation email. Kit is based in the United States and participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Privacy policy
• Google AdSense: display advertising, gated on consent for EEA/UK visitors. Privacy policy
• Affiliate partners: some outbound links (Amazon, as an Amazon Associate, for sheet music and recordings; Stay22 for accommodation; travel partners via Travelpayouts, such as Omio for transport) are affiliate links. If you click one, the partner's site may set cookies to attribute a booking or purchase; we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We receive only aggregate reports from these partners, never your personal details. These links are labelled on the page.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask us for access to, correction of, deletion of, or a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and you can object to or ask us to restrict processing. Email tonelabapps@gmail.com and we will respond within a month. You can also lodge a complaint with the Dutch supervisory authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or the authority in your own EU country.
