Getting there

Târgu-Mureș International Airport (TGM) is located 14 kilometers southwest of the city, with Wizz Air providing direct flights from Budapest and London-Luton. For broader connections, Romania's rail network offers several routes to Târgu-Mureș; direct trains run daily from Budapest and Timișoara (about 6.5 hours), as well as two daily services from Bucharest (9.5 to 10 hours) and five from Brașov (6.5 to 9 hours). A direct train from Cluj-Napoca takes just under three hours, arriving in the evening, while other services involve a transfer. Frequent intercity buses also connect Târgu-Mureș to Brașov (3 hours, passing through Sighișoara) and Cluj-Napoca (2.5 hours).

The city's Art Nouveau center, particularly around Trandafirilor Square, is a highlight, featuring the remarkable Culture Palace, built between 1911 and 1913 in the Hungarian Art Nouveau style. Nearby, the 17th-century Târgu Mureș Fortress, originally a defensive structure, now serves as a relaxed space for exhibitions and houses the city's main Calvinist church. Other notable religious sites include the neo-Byzantine Ascension of the Lord Cathedral and the Neoclassical Annunciation Church, modeled after St Peter's Basilica. The Teleki Library, established in 1802, is a historical treasure, housing over 200,000 volumes, including many rarities. For a break from urban exploration, Platoul Cornești, a hill east of the city, is ideal for walking or hiking, and also home to the Târgu-Mureș Zoo.
