While you're there
The area around Postojna is rich with natural and historical attractions. The Postojna Caves themselves are the main draw, a vast system explored by electric train and a guided walk, revealing stunning stalagmites like the five-metre-high 'Brilliant,' and home to the unique olm. The caves maintain a cool 10°C year-round, so warm clothing is recommended. Just nine kilometres away, the remarkable Predjama Castle appears to grow directly out of a cave, steeped in the legend of the knight Erazem Predjamski; reaching it involves a difficult uphill walk without footpaths, so driving or a taxi is recommended. Further karst wonders include the Planina Cave, with its huge entrance freely accessible, and the picturesque Rak Škocjan karst valley, featuring natural stone bridges and footpaths. For active visitors, the Adventure Park Postojna, located next to the famous caves, offers a forest full of challenges, including swing bridges and zip wires.
